Portraits in Oils (From Live Model), 5th December
Portraits in Oils (From Live Model), 5th December
This workshop is the ideal follow on from Richard’s Portraits in Oils for beginners workshop. Working from photographs is a common practice amongst portrait painters but painting from a live model adds that extra element of challenge due to working from a 3D reference point. The key to this workshop is observation and you will be encouraged to really focus on the sitter’s overall presence and not just their facial features.
What will I learn?
The importance and principals of measuring and facial structure.
How to approach painting the human face as a whole before moving into details.
How to mix realistic flesh tones using a limited palette.
How to effectively approach and build an alla prima portrait painting.
How to use mark making to create an exciting painting, not just a likeness.
Materials List
Oil paints you will need – Ultramarine Blue, Raw Umber, Cadmium Red, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Titanium White - or your preferred equivalent colours.
