You can book Richard to demonstrate at your art group or society.

Richard Kitson delivering a portrait painting in oils demonstration at Mall Galleries, London during the Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition, 2025.

You can book Richard to demonstrate at your local art group or society. Richard will bring with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, all delivered with his engaging sense of humour. Richard will also bring examples of his work to further extend the subject matter being explored. Typically, an in person demonstration will last approximately two hours (with a break) with Richard explaining his working methods, materials and taking questions from the group.

Demonstrations are charged at £150 with expenses calculated according to your venue location.

Richard can deliver demonstrations on the following subjects…

Portrait Painting in Oils - Richard’s most popular demonstration request. Richard will paint a head and shoulders portrait across the two hour demonstration.

Figure in Oils - Richard will paint a clothed human figure in an expressive style taking care to include background elements to contextualise the subject being painted.

Landscape in Oils - Bringing the outdoors indoors, Richard will demonstrate his approach to painting landscapes in the open air. Across the two hours Richard will complete at least one landscape, showing how he simplifies the scene to create a sense of immediacy before the sun migrates too far and light changes.

Still Life in Oils - Objects feature regularly in Richard’s paintings, this demonstration will turn the focus on the objects themselves to create an engaging still life arrangement. This demonstration will also discuss composition as a key part of painting.

Crits - Book Richard to visit one of your group sessions where members can receive constructive feedback on their own work and projects. A key part of creative learning and discourse, critiques can open up new ideas and possibilities for your personal creative development.

Artist Talk - Book Richard to discuss his work and life as an artist. Richard will bring examples of his work and take questions from the group.
