Join Richard to explore the wonderful, versatile world of oil painting.

Participants will be guided in the fundamentals of oil painting with a focus on colour mixing, mark making, tonal values, form and composition.

Using a combination of demonstrations and one to one support, Richard will help each individual improve their technique and overcome any obstacles that arise.

The course is suitable for beginners and those wanting to improve their skills and includes practical advice on how to set up a studio at home so you can continue your painting practice. Richard will also offer advice on which materials to use, helping you cut through the considerable number of options available.

Artist bio:
Richard Kitson is a figurative and portrait artist based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. His work has been featured in prestigious exhibitions, including the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize, Figurative Art Now, and the Cork Street Open. Kitson has exhibited across the UK and internationally and was a participant in Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year 2018. His paintings are held in a variety of public and private collections, and he continues to offer portrait commissions and workshops in Barnsley and Yorkshire.

Location and Access: Richard Kitson Fine Art, Room 16, 2 Eastgate, Barnsley, S70 2EP. Please note that Richard’s studio is up two flights of stairs with no lift access.
Where to meet:
Please arrive at the studio at 9.50 for a 10am start. This course ends at 4pm.
Parking:
There is ample parking near to the studio on County Way and Regent Street, further information will be provided.
Public Transport: Richard’s studio is conveniently located just a short walk from the main train and bus terminals.
Materials: Paints, surfaces and sundries are provided. You are welcome to use Richard’s well loved workshop brushes or you are also welcome to bring your own brushes if you prefer. Lunch: Refreshments are provided but please bring a packed lunch. Alternatively, there are a range of cafés in the vicinity of the venue with excellent food, please ask for recommendations.
Age: Suitable for those of 16 years of age and upwards.
How many students will there be? There is a maximum of 4 participants and the tutor will customise the course according to your individual needs.
What to bring: Please wear old clothes that you are happy to get paint on.

Cancelation Policy: If you cancel more than 14 days before a course starts, your full fee will be refunded. If you cancel under 14 days before the start date we cannot refund any of the fee.
