Portrait Drawing, 11th-12th October

£200.00

Do you want to draw exciting and convincing portraits? Have you struggled to do this? Portraiture is arguable one of the most difficult artistic endeavours but with an understanding of the anatomy and structure of the human head and face you can achieve the results you desire.

This brand new 2-day workshop is the place to learn the fundamentals of drawing a portrait. On day one you will work from photographic references before working from a live model on day two. As well as producing at least two completed portraits by the end of the course, you will learn:

·       About the overall structure of the skull and head.

·       Using light and shade to convey an overall likeness.

·       How to use a range of marks and drawing materials.

·       How to gradually home in on details to achieve a convincing likeness.

The workshop will begin with the humble pencil with Richard demonstrating his approach to portrait drawing. Richard will also demonstrate portrait drawing techniques with a range of dry media including charcoal, conte crayons and pastels. This is aimed to encourage you to explore different materials as your confidence grows throughout the workshop. Whatever medium you decide to use, Richard will personalise his tuition.

Richard was trained in academic drawing techniques and over his years of practice he has developed ways of introducing wider dynamics through line and mark making. If you have always wanted to give your approach to drawing a more solid grounding this is the course for you.

Testimonial:“Not only did I learn loads but I had lots of fun as well. Richard is an amazing artist and it felt like he really wanted to help you be your best artist. I came away from the workshop with new skills, great art and a new confidence in myself.” Laura Horrocks-Barlow
